How to spot it

A pale white or yellow blistered patch on the side of the fruit that faced the sun. It later turns papery and can rot.

Why it happens

Fruit exposed to strong sun overheats, usually after the plant lost leaves to disease or pruning.

What to do now

  • Pick damaged fruit; cut away the patch if the rest is sound.

Keep it away next time

  • Keep the leaves: don't over-prune, and control leaf diseases.
  • Use shade cloth in heat waves.
