How to spot it

Round brown spots on ripening fruit that spread fast and grow tan-gray tufts of spores. Fruit shrivels into hard "mummies." Blossoms can brown and stick to the twigs.

What it does

Fruit rots on the tree and after picking.

What to do now

  • Pick off rotting fruit and throw it away.
  • Pick fruit as it ripens and chill it.

Keep it away next time

  • Remove every mummy in winter, from the tree and the ground.
  • Thin fruit so none touch.
  • Prune for airflow, and spray sulfur at bloom and before harvest in wet years.
